     On Thursday, February 15, 2018, at the age of 84, Lamont entered into eternal life, peacefully, with his family by his side.  Lamont, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather, uncle, brother and good friend of many was born to John and Charity “Sugar” (Irving) Wilkins on June 6, 1933 in Indianola, Mississippi.  In 1964, he fell in love with, and married his surviving spouse, Margarette A. Schmidt.  Lamont was employed with Bay City Chevrolet in 1968 and retired in 1980.  During the course of his life, he enjoyed working on cars, tinkering with things at home, camping, bonfires, playing the lottery and most of all spending time with his family and friends.  Lamont grew up loving blues music and playing his guitar.  He also loved old cars, Harley “hogs”, Cadillacs and taking long car rides.  He was always one to tell great stories or play you a tune on his guitar, and he absolutely loved making people laugh.  Those of you who like communicating by CB radio, you would have reached Lamont by the call handle of KPN2016. 

     Surviving besides his loving wife Margarette, are five children: Mary “Ann” Griffin, Terri (Jerry) Martin, Sr., Evelyn (Sammy) Campbell, Charity (Judd) Morse and Laymon John “Chum” Wilkins.  He is also survived by the following grandchildren, Karen (Douglas-deceased) Lowery, Chris (Hiroko) Griffin, Vanessa (Jerome) Rogers, Verisa Denise (Dennis) Baker, Jacqueline (Robert) Carrington, Breanna Jackson, Creighton McCullough, DeJala and Terrence Martin, Tamieka Morgan, Jerry Lee Martin Jr, Greg and Chiquita Wilkins, LeGrane and Jordan Campbell, Jessica (Jeff) Korpal, Judson, Jacob and Jenna Morse, and a very special grandson Andrew Wilkins.  Lamont also leaves behind a host of great grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren, one sister Cora Lee Triplett, numerous, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and several friends.  Lamont was predeceased by two children and their spouses, Jacqueline (Frederick) Jackson and Michael (Darlene) Wilkins, one decease son-in-law Cary Griffin, two grandsons Sheric Harris and Terry Campbell, one great grandson Reginal Lamont Griffin, seventeen siblings and his former spouse Emma Louise Lucas.

     The Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at 12:00 noon at Squires Funeral Home.  Pastor Joe Atchinson will officiate and interment will be in Green Ridge Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 3:00 to 8:00 pm and Wednesday after 10:00 am until the time of service.  Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to “Family Wishes.”
