Thomas G. GonyawApril 4, 1934 ~ October 26, 2017 (age 83)
Tom passed away Thursday, October 26, 2017 at McLaren Bay Region, age 83. He was born April 4, 1934 in Bay City to the late George and Helen (Fournier) Gonyaw. He retired from Dow Chemical in May of 1995 after 40 years of dedicated service as one of their Senior Lab Technicians. Tom enjoyed sailing, playing golf, deer hunting with his son and grandson and spending time by the water. He especially loved being on the water at Higgins Lake and in Florida. Tom was a member of the National Ski Patrol and a member of the former Saginaw Bay Yacht Racing Association.
Surviving is his loving companion of 43 years, Marbeth Anderson, his four children: Christine (Michael) Brady, Catherine (Pete) Pouliot, Jeffrey Gonyaw and his friend Lori and Dove Vallender and her husband Mark, six grandchildren: Travis (Erica) Brady, Shawn (Melissa) Brady, Michelle (Geoff) Nowak, Kristyn (Josh) Sterken, Rachel and Mitchell Gonyaw, eight great grandchildren, one sister Susan Hinkens, one sister in-law Ruth Gonyaw, niece Laurel Gonyaw, nephew Micky Gonyaw, several great nieces and nephews. Tom was predeceased by his brother H. Michael Gonyaw.
Per Tom’s wishes, cremation will take place. Friends and family will gather at the Squires Funeral Home on Saturday, October 28, 2017 from 1:00 to 5:00 pm. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to McLaren Hospice.
Tom’s family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to McLaren Hospice staff and all the nurses and staff of the Critical Care Unit at McLaren Bay Region for their kind and compassionate care they gave Tom while he was there.
