After a lengthy illness, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, in the evening hours of Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at his residence in Bay City, Michigan. Age 63 years. Roger was born in Bay City, Michigan on June 21, 1955 to the late Russel L. and Donna J. (Youngs) Veitengruber. On October 9, 1982 at the Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bay City, Roger married the love of his life, Laurie LeFevre. After nearly 40 years of service, Roger retired in 2012 as a Maintenance Supervisor at the Bangor Downs Townhomes. He always had a passion for his work. He loved it because he was able to construct and provide nice homes for families in need that were not as fortunate as his was. Roger was a member for numerous years at the Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church where he also belonged to the ushers club. Some of his hobbies included; watching baseball and football, hunting, fishing, and spending time up north. He was the Detroit Tigers’ and Detroit Lions’ number one fan. Roger enjoyed many things, but nothing compared to the joy that his family brought him. His whole world revolved around his family. Roger will always be remembered as a devoted family man.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 36 years, Laurie Veitengruber; children, Ladd (Jennifer) Veitengruber, Beau (Krystal) Veitengruber, Abby (Boyfriend, John Kalkman) Veitengruber, Chloe Veitengruber, and Raine Veitengruber; grandchildren, Michael Houle, Macey Veitengruber, Mikayla Veitengruber, Emmie Veitengruber, and Baby Veitengruber who will be arriving shortly; fur-babies, Gully and Marshmallow; siblings, David Veitengruber, Karen (Henna Garrett) Quinn, and Melinda (Jack) Freese; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Sharrie Gallagher and William J. LeFevre; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Morag LeFevre, Lane (Natalie) LeFevre, Lynn (Garria) Arnold, William (Joann) LeFevre, Joe (Vicki) St. Martin, Mr. and Mrs. Jayson LeFevre, and Shannon White; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. After a period of separation, Roger is finally reunited with his parents, Russel L. and Donna J. (Youngs) Veitengruber; brother-in-law/best man, Lance LeFevre; and his step-mother-in-law, Joyce LeFevre.

Roger’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of McLaren Hospice for the care and compassion that they provided to Roger and his family. Also they would like to thank the McLaren Bay Region Hospital for the extraordinary care during the last five years of Roger’s illness. Lastly, Laurie and Roger would like to thank all of their children for their support, devotion, and unselfish acts of kindness above and beyond their call of duty.
