December 28, 1939 ~ April 9, 2019 (age 79)

Spencer, Michael Lee

Bay City, Michigan

Our loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother passed away peacefully with his family by his side in the early evening hours of Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at Brian’s House in Essexville, Michigan. Age 79 years. Michael was born on December 28, 1939 in Flint, Michigan to the late Charles and Alta (Campbell) Spencer. In 1977 Michael married the love of his life, Marguerite E. Yell, in Bay City. He retired from the Bay City Country Club where he was a grounds keeper for over 34 years. Michael enjoyed golfing, fishing, and hunting. He loved working on cars and building things; he was quite the handyman. Above all nothing meant more to Michael than his family. His biggest job in life was the memories made spending time with his family and friends.

Left to cherish Michael’s memories are his wife of 42 years, Marguerite E. Spencer; children, Lily (Louis) Johnroe, Joseph Spencer, Tim (Nicole) Spencer, and Brenda Hofmeister; grandchildren, Jay (Ashely) Ritchie, Amanda (Chad) Rahn, John Hofmeister, Michele (Jacob) Goodroe, Samantha Johnroe, Monica (Steven) Woodbury, Holly Johnroe, Michael Hudson, Richard Makela, and Mackenzie Makela; great-grandchildren, Nevaeh, Keegan, Eli, Kash, Weston, and Sophie; brother, Robert Spencer; brother-in-law, Joseph Yell; sisters-in-law, Teresa Jacobs and Dianne Jacobs; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. After being separated for a period of time, Michael is finally reunited with his parents, Charles and Alta (Campbell) Spencer; two sons, Peter Hofmeister and Dave Spencer; siblings, Daniel Spencer, Phylis Parks, Jerry Spencer, and Billy “Butch” Spencer; sisters-in-law, Rosie Yell, Mary Ann Lutz, and Linda Hine; and brother-in-law, Peter Yell.

At the request of Michael and his family, cremation has taken place and there are no services being held at the Squires Funeral Home. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the “Wishes of the Family”.
