Melanie K.I. Bond
Bay City, Michigan

Mrs. Bond passed away peacefully at her home Wednesday, April 18, 2018 surrounded by her family at the age of 61. She was born the daughter of Maynard D. and Ann M. (Utz) Cornell, on May 19, 1956 in Lansing, Michigan. On November 23, 1988 she wed Harvey A. Bond in Lansing, Michigan and he survives her. Melanie worked as a documentation specialist for the State of Michigan Treasury for more than 18 years and was a member of the United Church of God in Freeland, Michigan.
While employed and during retirement, she enjoyed to travel with her family, her church, and with the Deaf-Blind Explorers. She was proud to have traveled to all 50 states, as well as Canada and Mexico. Melanie had a deep passion to help others with Usher Syndrome and many of the deaf-blind community in online groups.
In her free time, Melanie was an accomplished poet and story writer, leaving hundreds of poems and stories behind. She could often be found enjoying the challenge of word games such as Scrabble and Boggles with her family. Also having a deep fascination with genealogy, she loved locating and breathing life into long lost relatives.
Melanie was such an amazing, kind and loving person who was very much loved by her family and friends and was genuinely interested in the lives of the people she knew.
Surviving besides her husband Harvey, are her children: Meilani R.A. (Brad Keiffer) Williams, Jamie R.M. (Eric Henderson) Williams, and Daniel G. Bond, step daughters: Theresa (Adam Spence) Dafoe and Melanie C. Bond. Melanie’s mother: Ann M. Cornell. Grandchildren: Corinne, Ethan, Alexis, Qi’Airra, Davon, Kamarri, Kameia, Sa’Riyah, Marciano, Kira, Cole, Lucas, Amy, and Culley. Her two sisters: Jennifer Cornell and Cynthia Cornell, one brother Jeff Cornell. In-laws: Lorraine Gerrow, Neil (Lorna) Bond, Susan (Peter) Coleman, Betty Ann (Jack) Hiscott and Douglas (Roberta) Bond. Melanie was predeceased by her father: Maynard D. Cornell, many aunts, uncles and relatives.
Per Melanie’s request, cremation has taken place. Memorial services will take place as follows:
-Saturday June 2, 2018 at United Church of God: 8756 Carter Road, Freeland, MI 48623 at 2pm.
-Sunday June 3, 2018 at United Church of God: 7868 Old State Highway 78, Haslett, MI 48840 at 2pm.
There will be a small potluck following the memorial. A dish to pass is welcome but not obligatory.
