Mr. Rechsteiner passed away the afternoon of Saturday, November 2, 2019 at Auburn Fields Assisted Living, Auburn, Michigan, age 82 surrounded by his family. Louis was born in Kawkawlin, Michigan on November 1, 1937 to the late Arnold and Ella (Lang) Rechsteiner. He married the former Arlene Reinhardt and she preceded him in death in 1996. Louis was born and raised on the farm, which led him to enjoy vegetable gardening throughout his life. Instilled in him as a child, was his dedication to work hard and always finish any job he started with love and pride. In turn, this is a quality he passed down to his children and grandchildren. It was most fitting that he should become a General Foreman at Monitor Sugar Company before retiring after 39 years of dedicated service. He and his wife Arlene were members of the First Baptist Church of Auburn and together they enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling, tent camping and square dancing. Of the many selfless things they did during their lifetime together, Louis, Arlene, brother Leroy, sister-in-law Janece and all their children drove to Wyoming to build a Baptist Missionary Church. Throughout his life, Louis donated his time, skills and money to many individuals and organizations in need.
Living to cherish his memory are their children: Karen (Mark) Goss, Paul (Julie) Rechsteiner; grandchildren: Brian, Kari, Kaleb (Heather), and Faith (Keiran); great-grandchildren: Austin, Nadia, Daniel, Kennedy, and Addison; brothers and sister: John, Joe (Cathy), James (Karen), Danny (Carol), and Irene Rechsteiner; sisters-in-law, Janece, Maxine and Roseanne Rechsteiner. Besides his wife Arlene, Louis was preceded in death by his son and daughter Dale and Diane Rechsteiner, and siblings: Nellie (Russell) Scherzer, Lilly (Willard) Morgan, Nancy Grove, Arnold, Leroy, Frank (Rose), William, Harry, and Benjamin Rechsteiner.
At Louis’ request, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held Sunday, November 10, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. at Squires Funeral Home, 211 North Henry Street, Bay City, Michigan, 48706.
