Kenneth J. Smolinski, aged 62, passed away unexpectedly the afternoon of Friday, May 17, 2019. He was born in Bay City on July 25, 1956 to the late Eugene and Eva Marie (Langton) and resided in Bay City most of his life. Kenneth proudly served in the United States Army from 1974-1997. He was in the 82nd Airborne Unit, retired Sargent E6. He served in Battery C, 1st Battalion Airborne, 319th Field Artillery, Ft. Brag, NC. In 1980, Kenneth was awarded Outstanding Non-Commissioned Officer with significant other accomplishments. Then, in 1981, he was recognized as a Distinguished Trooper. Ken met Stacey in 1997 and they were united in marriage on September 14, 2016 and she survives him. Kenneth also retired from Michigan Sugar in 2008. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed bike riding, and fishing. He will for always be remembered as a happy and outgoing man.
Besides his wife Stacey, Kenneth is survived by his two sons, Kenneth Jr. (Collette) and Michael (girlfriend, Heather) Smolinski; Stacey’s two daughters, Kelsey and Courtney Stanley, whom he always thought of as his own; a “daughter in heart”, Felicia Hunter; brothers, Robert (Joyce), David, Thomas, Joseph, and sister, Cathryn (Kris) Johnson; numerous nieces and nephews, and his Army buddies, Rick, Don, Bruce, and Diane. Kenneth was preceded in death by his brother Daniel on June 7, 1995.
A Funeral Service for Kenneth will take place at Squires Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Joe Atchinson will preside. Kenneth's family will be present at the funeral home to receive visitors on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Military Honors under the auspices of the Bay County Veteran's Association and interment will follow in Floral Gardens Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the “Wishes of the Family”.
