Kathleen M. Machelski “Katie”
Bay City, Michigan
Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, sister and friend to everyone she met passed away Thursday, January 4, 2018 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw, age 74. The daughter of Leo and Eugenia (Gwizdala) Balwinski, Katie was born November 9, 1943 in Bay City. She married Ernest J. Machelski in St. Hedwig Catholic Church on October 7, 1961. Katie and Ernie owned and operated Katie’s Ceramics and later Mackinaw Island Fudge. She was always a positive role model, not only for her immediate family but also those who knew her as “Busia”. Katie volunteered and encouraged little league players at Southend Little League. She loved to celebrate “Fat Tuesday” with the kids and making Christmas cookies was a special time for her as well. Katie made every effort to make all of the grandchildren’s events and games. She loved her family dearly and they loved her even more in return. Katie will be missed and her big “Busia Hugs” as well.
Katie is survived by her husband of 56 years Ernie, six children: Michael (Jody) Machelski, Margaret (Mark) Dziurka, Mark (Debbie) Machelski, Mitchell (Ann) Machelski, Marsha (Tim Schroeder) Gasta and Matthew (Laurie) Machelski, Katie’s mother, Eugenia Balwinski, sixteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and four sisters: Carol (Art) Hash, Mary Jo (Ken) Walraven, Sandy Graczyk and Linda Socia. Katie was predeceased by her father Leo Balwinski and her father and mother in-law, Ernest and Laura Machelski.
