John V. “Jack” Dzurka
Our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all he met passed away Sunday, June 9, 2019 at McLaren Bay Region, age 67. Jack was born August 21, 1951 in Bay City, Michigan to the late Jack F. and Rose (Chryczek) Dzurka. He married Janet M. “Jan” Gookin on November 25, 2005 in Auburn, Michigan and she survives him. Jack was in the US Army Reserves during the Vietnam Era and worked for William Phillips Architecture as a carpenter and later with DeShano (Homes) Construction for more than 35 years as one of their finish carpentry professionals. He was a member of All Saints Parish-St. James Church, an usher and on the churches Art and Environment Committee. Jack enjoyed playing golf in his later years and was an avid Detroit Lions football fan. He would often follow the Tigers as well when they were winning.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife Jan, four children: Tina (Brian) Ciesla, Alan (Kimberly) Dzurka, Lt. Colonel Eric ( Major Jennifer) Gorney and Aaron Gorney, six grandchildren: Katelyn, Jayden and Lauren Ciesla, Alivia Dzurka, Jace and Bryce Gorney, one sister Barbara (Jim Matuszewski) Buczek, one sister-in-law, Janet Dzurka and two brothers-in-law, Richard (Nan) Gookin and David (Kaye) Gookin, many nieces and nephews. Jack was predeceased by a granddaughter Grace Dzurka, one brother Anthony Dzurka, one sister Annette Dzurka and a brother-in-law Richard Buczek.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday afternoon, June 14, 2019 at 5:00 PM at All Saints Parish-St. James Church. Fr. Jose Maria Cabrera will celebrate Mass, cremation will follow and private inurnment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call at Ambrose Funeral Home on Thursday from 2:00 to 8:00 PM and at church on Friday after 4:00 PM. A Parish Vigil Service for Jack will be held Thursday at 6:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the “Wishes of the Family.”
