Obituary

Jeanette M. Kaczmarek
Bay City, Michigan

Jeanette M. Kaczmarek passed away the evening of Saturday, November 2, 2019 at Caretel Inns of Tri-Cities – Leighton House Inn surrounded by her loving children, age 88 years.  She was born May 8, 1931 in Bay City to the late Edward Buzalski and Stephenia (Stachowiak) (Buzalski) Meisner.  Jeanette married Walter F. Kaczmarek, Jr. on August 19, 1950 and he preceded her in death on July 31, 1985.

Jeanette was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish – St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church.  She taught herself how to knit as a young girl and was exceptionally generous with the items she knitted.  Through the years she knitted and donated innumerable afghans, slippers, mittens, children’s sweaters and over 3000 caps for homeless families, children at St. James Catholic grade school, Veterans and their families, and Created for Caring.  Jeanette faithfully visited her son Scott, after his accident, at Harper Grace Hospital in Detroit and then the Bay Medical Care Facility for over thirty-two years.  Throughout the halls of the Facility, she was affectionately known as Mrs. K. Anyone that knew Jeanette soon realized that although she was small in stature, she was feisty and devoted in her advocacy for Scott.

On October 30, 2019 while her daughter, Sandy, was visiting Jeanette at Leighton House Inn, it was obvious that although her eyes were closed, she was having a conversation with someone in the room not visible to Sandy. As Jeanette was talking about a ladder, she asked her listener if she could “sit up higher and be king of the ladder”. As a mere observer in a very private moment between her Mom and an unidentified listener, this request brought a smile to Sandy and to everyone with whom the story has been shared.

Surviving are her children, Timothy (Deborah) Kaczmarek, Sandy (Jonathan) VanTol, and Mark (Tina) Kaczmarek; two grandsons, Geoffrey Kaczmarek and Justin (Amanda) VanTol;  two great-grandsons, Benjamin and Gavin VanTol; a sister, Susan “Susie” (Ron) Herek; a brother, Michael “Mike” Meisner; and sisters-in-law, Janet “Jan” Wodecki, and Marcia (Bob) Warren.  Besides her husband, Jeanette was also preceded in death by her son, Scott A. Kaczmarek in 2017; her parents; and her granddaughter, Angela M. VanTol in 1981.

Several people that were especially kind and generous to Jeanette for many years are Bill Allsopp, “Dr” Debbie Stoeckle, Alice Kryszak, Mike Straub, and Joe Madaj. She always spoke highly of all of you and valued the services you provided to her.

The family is extremely grateful to all the compassionate, devoted, and supportive staff at Leighton House Inn especially Nancy, Steve, Rose, Samantha, Summer, Jill, Becky and also to Joseph from The Care Team. All of you treated our Mom with so much kindness and dignity. You all make this world a better place and helped her family through a very difficult time.

The Funeral Mass for Jeanette will be celebrated on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish – St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church.  Fr. Bill Rutkowski will preside with burial in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.  Friends may call at the church only on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.  In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider The Special Needs Vision Clinic.
