Harvey H. Ostrander, aged 85, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2019 at Lakeland Regional Hospital in Lakeland, Florida following a brief but sudden illness. He was born in Legrand, Michigan on June 19, 1933. Harvey faithfully served his country as an Officer in the United States Navy. While serving in the Navy, he met the love of his life, the late Norma (Telford) Ostrander. They married in California on April 12, 1958 and spent fifty- seven wonderful years together until she preceded him in death on October 26, 2015.
Harvey worked for the former Production Credit Association as a banker for over twenty-five years before retiring in 1988. He will always be remembered as an active, helpful, considerate, fair, caring and generous person who was especially dedicated to his wife Norma, and their three children. Harvey was born and raised on a farm and knew the value of hard work. He was known to always have a flower and vegetable garden, which he tinkered in daily. His family and friends reaped the fruits of his labor as well as those who visited his roadside vegetable stand. Harvey never charged anyone for his produce – he always lovingly gave it away. He loved feeding the squirrels and birds that frequented his feeders and also enjoyed hunting, and fishing for Walleye & Perch on the Saginaw Bay as well as trips to Soaring Eagle and Saganing Eagles Landing Casinos.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, John (Jackie) Ostrander; Lori (William Techlin) Ostrander; R. Scott (Cathy) Ostrander; five grandchildren, Joshua Ostrander; Phoebe Kannisto; Justin Ostrander-Techlin; Zachary Ostrander and Devon Ostrander; eleven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, his five brothers and two sisters, Henry, Gerald, Arnold, Alfred, Quentin, Doris, and Verna also preceded Harvey in death.
A Memorial Service will take place Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. at Squires Funeral Home. Harvey’s family will be present at the funeral home on Saturday to receive family and friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In honor of Harvey's wishes, the family requests that your attire is casual while paying your respects. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider donations to the American Heart Association.
