Balwinski, Eugenia “Jean”
Bay City, Michigan
Our loving mother, grandmother, and sister passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Monday, May 20, 2019 at Brian’s House in Essexville, Michigan. Age 98 years. Jean was born on December 21, 1920 in Bay City, Michigan to the late Joseph and Anna (Wazbinski) Gwizdala. Jean married the love of her life, Leo A. Balwinski, on November 1, 1941 at St. Stanislaus Church in Bay City, and he preceded her in death in 2001. She retired from the City of Bay City after numerous years of work. Jean was a very involved member at St. Stanislaus Church, St. Stan’s Bell Choir and Ladies Choir, the American Rose Society, Rose Society of Bay City, Northeastern Michigan Rosarians, Ladies Rosary Society, Senior Citizens of St. Stan’s. She was a cantor at St. Stan’s Church and was a National Rose Judge. When she wasn’t helping with a club related event, Jean enjoyed gardening and traveling in her motor home with her husband. Jean also had a passion for knitting. Each year she would work hard to knit mass quantities of hats and scarves that would later be donated to various charitable organizations. Jean will be missed dearly by her family.
Left to cherish her memoires are her children, Carol (Arthur) Hash of Eyota, Minnesota, Mary Jo (Kenneth) Walraven of Pinconning, Michigan, Linda Socia of Bay City, Michigan, and Sandra Graczyk of Bay City, Michigan; seventeen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; sister, Edwina Kubiak of Prescott, Arizona; and son-in-law, Ernest Machelski. After a period of separation, Jean is finally reunited with her husband, Leo A. Balwinski; daughter, Kathleen Machelski; sister, Sister JoAnne Gwizdala of Holy Trinity Church; and brothers, Marion Gwizdala and Leonard Gwizdala.
The family of Jean would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Brian’s House and McLaren Hospice for the care and compassion that they provided to Jean and their family.
