Eugene A. DeLong
Bay City, Michigan
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at his home, age 69. Eugene was born June 11, 1949 in Bay City to the late Alvin and Iva (Palmer) DeLong. He married Susan M. Leland in Holy Trinity Church on May 15, 1976 and she survives him. Eugene was a veteran and served his country with the US Navy from 1969 to 1973. He was currently in his 51st year of employment with Bay Cast in Bay City and a member of Corpus Christi Parish-Holy Trinity Church. He enjoyed camping, hunting, watching the Detroit Tigers, coaching softball and every year tried to make it through another Detroit Lions season without getting upset.
Surviving besides his wife Susan are three children: Craig (girlfriend, Kelli) DeLong, Desiree (Neil) Jacob and Amanda (Chad) Rich, two granddaughters, Skylar Morris and Madison Rich, two sisters, Diane Crosby and Joyce DeLong, one brother Gary (Jane) DeLong, one brother-in-law James Leland, Jr., and a sister-in-law Stephanie Leland. Eugene was predeceased by a grandson Richard James Rich, one brother-in-law Patrick Leland and a sister-in-law Donna Scheffel.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 11:00 am at Corpus Christi Parish-Holy Trinity Church. Fr. Robert Kelm will celebrate Mass. Friends may call at the Squires Funeral Home on Friday from 2:00 to 7:00 pm and at church on Saturday after 10:00 am. Military Honors, under the auspices of the Bay County Veterans Honor Guard will be held Friday evening at Squires Funeral Home at 6:00 pm, then followed immediately by a Parish Vigil Service. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorials to the Kidney Foundation. www.squiresfuneralhome.com
