Our beloved mother, grandmother, “GiGi”, and friend to many, passed away Thursday, December 28, 2017 at McLaren Bay Region surrounded by her family and friends, age 91. Betty was born May 21, 1926 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late August and Tillie (Wesolek) Grams. She met and fell in love with Jacob J. Sheredy. They were united in marriage on September 8, 1945 in Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Saginaw. Jake predeceased Betty on December 4, 2014. Betty was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish-St. Hyacinth Church, the Rosary Sodality and the Knights of Columbus #4102 Ladies Auxiliary, where she held several different board positions. She also enjoyed working at the funeral luncheons at the church and was the best cake cutter at the Knights of Columbus fish fries. She was a lifelong member of Weight Watchers. Betty was also a role model for the Amputee Clinic in Bay City where she was often called upon to join in on their sessions to support and encourage new amputees. In their earlier years, Betty and Jake enjoyed polka dancing and visited all 50 states while traveling.
Surviving are two daughters, Patricia (David) Smith and Nancy Smith, one daughter in-law Val Sheredy, twelve grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, two great great grandsons, three sisters in-law: Ann Fettig, Frances Bolle and Kate (Richard) Paxton, several nieces, nephews and special friends. Betty was predeceased by two sons, Dennis C. and Brian P. Sheredy, grandson Brad C. Gatza, one sister Dorrie Brass and a brother Raymond Grams.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish-St. Hyacinth Church, 1515 Cass Ave., Bay City, Michigan 48708. Fr. Rick Filary will celebrate Mass and interment will follow in Floral Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call at the Ambrose Funeral Home on Monday from 3:00 to 8:00 PM and at church on Tuesday after 9:00 AM. Members of Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish will pray the Rosary Monday at 3:00 PM, followed later in the evening by a Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary Service of Remembrance and Parish Vigil Service at 7:00 PM.
