Cynthia "Cindy" A. (Spencer) BergOctober 13, 1955 ~ November 14, 2017 (age 62)

Cindy Berg age 62 passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at her home following 18 months of treatment for pancreatic cancer. She was born in Bay City, October 13, 1955 the 3rd of 8 children of Doris (Gillis) Spencer and the late John (Jack) Spencer. After graduating from Handy High School in 1973 and Michigan State University in 1976, Cindy taught kindergarteners through 8th graders for 32 years retiring from Auburn Elementary School in 2014. Cindy was a longtime active member of St. Gabriel Parish in Auburn and most recently a member of St. Agnes Church in Freeland. Cindy enjoyed baking, cooking, reading, playing Scrabble, finding bargains at yard sales, and most importantly spending time with her beloved family and friends. She considered herself a lifelong learner particularly in developing and practicing her faith. Two of her favorite quotes were, “God is good always,” and “Life does not have to be perfect to be wonderful.”
Cindy is survived by her one-and-only sweetheart and beloved husband of 40 years Robert(Bob)Berg and their 3 children and spouses, Sarah Zirwes, Benjamin and Paola Berg, Annemarie and Jason Parish, as well as grandchildren Zander Zirwes, Isaac and Coralie Berg, Zachary, Alyssa, and Zavier Parish. She is also survived by her mother Doris, 6 brothers and their spouses John (Thurza), Tim (Pam), Mike (Kim), Tom (Rena), Dave (Mary), Jim (Rose) and her sister Patti (Bud) Behmlander. She is also survived by her father-in-law George, brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws Fred (Karen), Helen, Mike (Kathy), George (Theresa), Godchildren Scott Smith, Ashley Traxler, Elizabeth Bacile, Kelly Couturier, Wheston Behmlander, George Berg, and Mathias Spencer along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, other dear family members, friends, and neighbors. She was predeceased by her father Jack, mother-in-law Mary, brother-in-law Tim, and her nephew Steven.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, November 17, 2017 at 10:00 am at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 300 Johnson Street, Freeland, Michigan 48623. Fr. Robert DeLand will celebrate Mass and private inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Kawkawlin. Friends may call at the Squires Funeral Home on Thursday from 2:00 to 8:00 pm and at church on Friday after 9:00 am. A Parish Vigil Service for Cindy will be held Thursday at 7:00 pm and the funeral home. In lieu of any flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to the St. Agnes Food Pantry.
The Berg family is extremely grateful to everyone who provided support to Cindy and family members throughout Cindy’s treatment. Know that your care, compassion, prayers, phone calls, and especially your cards were appreciated. They also send a special thank you to her cancer support group at Covenant and to Dr. Kwon and his wonderful team at Henry Ford.
