Arlene A. Swiercz
Bay City, Michigan
Arlene Swiercz, age 96 passed away peacefully at home in the presence of her family Wednesday, March 13, 2019. The first of nine children, she was born February 11, 1923 in Bay City, Michigan to the late Ernest W. and Blanche (Piotrowski) Nelson. On May 25, 1946 she married the love of her life, Walter A. Swiercz and he predeceased her on June 16, 1994. Arlene’s first major accomplishment was earning the valedictorian status from St. Mary’s High School in 1940. She was proud of beginning her career at Bay City Chevrolet and then meeting her husband. However, her greatest joy was being a wife, mother and grandmother. Arlene dedicated herself to her family, friends and neighbors and always shared a smile and laugh to brighten one’s day. She was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish-St. Hyacinth Church and its Altar Society and Knights of Columbus St. Stephen Council #4102 Ladies Auxiliary. Arlene was also a member of the Riverside Seniors and the League of Catholic Women and Men.
Arlene is survived by eight children: Bernard (Connie), Maria (Larry) Bartkowiak, Paul, Anne, Margaret (Preston) Swiercz Clark, John (Sandy), Kenneth (Kathy) and Christine (Tracy) Clayton along with a special niece Clarice (Robert) Anthony and their family, 22 grandchildren, 10 grandchildren-in-law, 26 great grandchildren, God children, four sisters: Armeda (Forrest) Heatley, Veronica Rousse, Patricia Nelson and Mary Jane Norman, sister-in-law Mary Lou Nelson, brother-in-law John Norman, daughter-in-law Pam Wheatley, several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Arlene was predeceased by her grandson Nicholas, brothers, Raymond, John and Augustus, sisters, Thelma Bond and Barbara Norman, brothers-in-law, Frederick Bond and Duane Rousse and a special family member Marion Goik.
A special thanks to the “village” who helped Arlene enjoy the last years of her life on earth-especially to her sister, Veronica, to Janet and Eva and to Covenant’s Visiting Nurses Association.
